Pattern Drawing

This is another piece from my fine art unit in drawing from last semester. The object of this exercise, was to create a pattern from marks made on paper with ink. I took the steps into Photoshop and painted over my image to create the final result. I really enjoyed creating this piece. All up it took me about 3 hours.

This image derived from an in class exploration into the relation between figure and field. I took the project a little further and developed it into a concept for an illustration. I say concept, because this isn’t what I would call a finished off illustration, which is why it is in my sketchbook.

As apart of my degree, I have chosen to enroll in a few fine art units. This life drawing study was from a unit I did last semester. This study took around 20 mins to complete. Digital painting over photographic texture.

Concept Competition Entry

Anthony Jones, one of my favorite concept artists, hosted a competition on his facebook page the other day. The Challenge was to create a character sketch in an hour that would fit into the universe of characters he is featuring in his up coming book. The large beastly creature, was my first entry and the female warrior was the second. I really enjoyed the challenge, and found that limiting the amount of time I had to draw was really beneficial to becoming more economical with my drawing.
